Nuclear Emergencies
Located on Hutchinson Island, about eight miles southeast of Ft. Pierce, two nuclear power units generate about 1,700 million watts of electricity -- enough power to supply the annual needs of more than 500,000 homes.
The St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant boasts an incredible safety record because security and safety are the top priorities.
The emergency plan involves coordinated drills with local, state and federal agencies; on- and off-site emergency response facilities; and public awareness programs.
