In addition to the 285,000 permanent residents, St. Lucie County is seasonal home to an estimated 15,000 seasonal agricultural workers who service our citrus industry. It is the role of the Health Department to monitor migrant living facilities to maintain a clean and healthful standard. This is done through permitting and inspection of migrant residential facilities under Chapter 64E-14, Florida Administrative Code (79kb PDF). St. Lucie County also has a Minimum Housing Ordinance that allows us to monitor and address conditions of rental housing in the unincorporated areas of the county. Ordinance 93-005 is based upon the SBCCI Standard Housing Code and establishes minimal acceptable standards.
