The Office of Performance Improvement (HPI)
is dedicated to helping Florida's
network of local county health departments and statewide public health
programs to get the best results possible using the dollars the public
has entrusted to the department. To accomplish this, HPI has developed
and implemented an innovative and data-driven approach to improving the
department's internal work processes.
Improving the efficiency of these
processes is challenging, but vital to improving overall performance.
Based on the tried-and-true "Plan-Do-Check-Act" (PDCA) model, Florida's
local county health departments and central office programs use this
unique approach to improve their business and health processes and
outcomes. Their use of the
DOH 5-Step Performance Improvement Process
results in a department-wide "big picture" of our organizational
effectiveness in meeting our mission. Using this approach to
improvement, along with making sure that department employees have
access to the professional resources they need to succeed, is key
to maintaining the department's ability to measure, improve, and
communicate the results of the department's work.
I invite you to learn more about the Office of Performance Improvement,
our approach to quality improvement, and the ways in which we support
the Florida Department of Health's mission through promoting continuous
improvement. (Reference:10
