Question: What is a calorie?
Answer: A calorie is a measurement of energy. The calories in your food represent the amount of energy in your food, and the calories your burn during exercise represent the energy you lose while exercising.
Question: How many calories should you eat a day to maintain a healthy weight?
Answer: It depends on the person: An average size woman 1600-1800calories/day, while an average size man 1800-2000 calories/day. These numbers can change depending on how active you are. If you are doing a lot of strenuous work then you may need more, but if you sit most of the day then you would need less.
Question: Does serving size matter?
Answer: Yes. The serving size tells you how many servings are in the package, and will help you figure out how many calories are in the entire meal. For example, A package of 4 cookies reads Calories 200, Serving Size 2. The 200 calories represent 1 serving. Thus, if four cookies equal two servings, after eating all four cookies you have consumed 400 calories, not 200.
